Easily visited in a day-trip from Nagoya is the castle town of
INUYAMA , 25km north of the city, beside the Kiso-gawa. The town feels
like an affluent suburb of Nagoya, but on summer evenings, displays of
ukai , or cormorant fishing , to which the castle's floodlit exterior
provides a dramatic backdrop, will transport you back centuries.
During the day it won't take you long to explore the town's small,
original castle, Inuyama-jo ; you're more likely to be tempted to linger
in Uraku-en , the delightful garden. Otherwise Inuyama's best attraction
is the nearby open-air architectural museum Meiji Mura , which brings
together a fascinating range of Meiji-era buildings in a huge landscaped
park.
